Last week,  I was invited to go to a lovely second hand clothing shop by the name of  La Suite 100% Love located in the town of Magog to sign some books.  I was delighted to get out, mingle and hit the road.  There’s nothing I love more than an impromptu road trip.  That is my idea of heaven. So are vintage shops.

I was greeted by Erin, the warm and fun-loving owner of the store who decorated the space with lots of pink.  It immediately felt like home.  She had even bought tiny pink doughnuts.  It was excruciatingly hard to resist.  However, I managed to summon my willpower as I am trying to cut back on my sugar intake. Not so simple….Thankfully, my friend Monique who owns the terrific Rémis Café,  a wonderful coffee shop across the street, offered us some homemade lemonade made with love and organic lemons and no sugar.  This got my mind (temporarily) off the doughnuts.

 

 

Back to the shop and book signing. I met some amazing people and had wonderful conversations with many locals.  This got my mind off another major temptation: all of the stunning second hand and vintage clothes (and gorgeous accessories)  on the racks in the shop! Not easy to resist!

The store is filled with stunning locally crafted jewelry, tons of great second-hand finds and some beauty and home products.

For the month of July and August, I’ve decided to cut back on my thrifting as I have found many treasures in the early summer and wanted to cut back new clothes. I do have the tendency to get carried away  ( Carrie-d away, like on TV) and was looking to cut back in an effort to promote plastic free July and in an effort to reduce my consumption.

Purchasing every single thing that tickles your fancy is not the best way to help the environment. It’s quite the opposite. Over purchasing in thrift shops just because it’s cheap is the same kind of over-consumption that destroys our planet, it’s just a different venue.

Just like with the doughnuts, I’m trying to cut back a little so I spent the afternoon sipping sugar-free lemonade and talking about second hand fashion. I also met a client who made my laugh to tears. The woman was hilarious!  I signed many books and had a wonderful time. I will definitely be back soon.

As I was leaving the store, my friend Monique invited me to a party. I was on my way for a drive around the lake and she said; this is a special evening.  you must come!  So I changed my plans and when we got to the restaurant, she informed me that we were celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening of a local spa, owned by Sonia, one of her friends. She had invited her closest friends to privately enjoy the spa after dinner.

Ouuuuaaaahh.

I thanked god and all the angels for having me slip my bathing suit in a bag at the last minute before hitting the road.

I had never been to the Spa Nordic Station.  It is absolutely gorgeous. Smaller than the other spas in the region, it is inviting and beautifully decorated by Sonia who has incredible taste. It is like a precious jewel, nested in pine trees by a river.  There are fairy lights everywhere, making the space totally enchanting.  I was smitten and grateful for this unexpected gift!

As I was soaking up the amazing ambiance in the hot tub and gazing at the moon, Sonia came over to me and offered my a tiny doughnut! Ha!

And this time, I started laughing.  I was being tested big-time!

It’s not easy, but I know that moderation is the spice of life.

La semaine dernière, j’ai été invitée à me rendre dans une charmante friperie appelée La Suite 100% Love située dans la ville de Magog pour signer quelques livres. J’étais ravie de sortir, de rencontrer des gens et de prendre la route. Il n’y a rien que j’aime plus qu’un voyage improvisé. C’est mon idée du paradis. Les boutiques vintage aussi.

J’ai été accueillie par Erin, la propriétaire chaleureuse et pleine de vie du magasin, qui avait décoré l’espace avec beaucoup de rose. C’était immédiatement accueillant. Elle avait même acheté de petits beignets roses. C’était extrêmement difficile de résister. Cependant, j’ai réussi à faire appel à ma volonté car j’essaie de réduire ma consommation de sucre. Pas si simple…Heureusement, mon amie Monique, qui est la charmante propriétaire du formidable café Rémis Café de l’autre côté de la rue, nous a offert une limonade maison préparée avec amour, des citrons biologiques et sans sucre. Cela m’a détourné (temporairement) des beignets.

Revenons au magasin et à la séance de dédicaces. J’ai rencontré des personnes incroyables et eu de merveilleuses conversations avec de nombreux habitants. Cela m’a également détourné d’une autre grande tentation : tous ces vêtements de seconde main et vintage magnifiques (et les accessoires superbes) sur les étagères du magasin ! Pas facile de résister !

Pour les mois de juillet et août, j’ai décidé de réduire mes achats, car j’ai trouvé de nombreux trésors en début d’été et je voulais limiter l’achat de nouveaux vêtements. J’ai tendance à me laisser emporter et je cherchais à réduire ma consommation, notamment pour soutenir le Plastic Free July et pour réduire mon impact environnemental.

Acheter tout ce qui vous fait envie n’est pas la meilleure façon d’aider l’environnement. C’est tout le contraire. Surconsommer dans les friperies juste parce que c’est bon marché, c’est le même type de surconsommation qui détruit notre planète, c’est juste un autre cadre.

Tout comme avec les beignets, j’essaie de faire des efforts. Ainsi, j’ai passé l’après-midi à siroter une limonade sans sucre et à parler de mode de seconde main. J’ai aussi rencontré une cliente qui m’a fait rire aux larmes. Cette femme était hilarante ! J’ai signé de nombreux livres et passé un moment merveilleux. Je reviendrai certainement bientôt à Magog!

En quittant le magasin, mon amie Monique m’a invitée à une fête. J’étais en route pour faire un tour autour du lac et elle m’a dit : “C’est une soirée spéciale, tu dois venir !” J’ai donc changé mes plans et lorsque nous sommes arrivées au restaurant, elle m’a informée que nous célébrions le 20e anniversaire de l’ouverture d’un spa local, appartenant à Sonia, l’une de ses amies. E lle avait invité ses amis les plus proches pour profiter en privé du spa après le dîner.

Ouuuuaaaahh.

J’ai remercié Dieu et tous les anges d’avoir glissé mon maillot de bain dans un sac à la dernière minute avant de prendre la route.

Je n’avais jamais été au Spa Nordic Station. C’est absolument magnifique.  Un peu plus petit que les autres spas de la région, il est chaleureux et décoré avec beaucoup de goût par Sonia qui a un talent incroyable.  C’est comme un joyau précieux niché parmi les pins au bord d’une rivière. Il y a des guirlandes lumineuses partout, rendant l’espace totalement enchanteur et féerique. J’étais conquise et reconnaissante pour ce cadeau inattendu !

Alors que je savourais l’ambiance incroyable dans le bain à remous en observant la lune, Sonia est venue vers moi et m’a offert un petit beignet ! Ha !

Cette fois, j’ai éclaté de rire.  J’étais vraiment mise à l’épreuve !

Ce n’est pas facile, mais je sais que la modération est la clé de la vie…
