Summer Challenge! Shop Second hand for the planet

So… summer is officially here! After an intense Spring season filled with a roller coaster of news, unprecedented change, upheaval, and discomfort, let’s face it, we’re all ready to spend time outdoors, breathe, play, and visit with friends ( if you can) and wear some COLOR! We will all benefit from some levity and wearing some colourful clothes, summer dresses and keeping things light. One go the things I wish to accomplish with creating this blog is helping to slow down the pollution and  detrimental effets the world’s excessive consumption has on our beautiful planet.

Why? I have long caused damage to our planet through my former consumption habits, that were at one point excessive and shall we say, shallow and uninformed.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again:  we come here to teach what we ourselves need to learn.

Becoming more conscious is my purpose. Sharing it with others is my mission.

So I’ve decided to begin a challenge: for the next three months I will not buy any new clothes.

Nothing NEW.

If I do purchase anything, it will be vintage or second hand. That’s it.

One exception: undergarments and swimwear

I have felt truly conflicted about writing this here as I do wish to encourage and stimulate the local economy. But the truth is that I do in my own ways: local artisans at the local markets, mostly local produce in the summer months and I shop the local vintage stores, and thrift shops too.

Will you join me on this challenge?

Let me know in the comments below!

Happy Summer and enjoy the thrill and the freedom this season brings.

❤️ 💚 💛

P.S. Although things are beginning to open up again, including shopping malls, we must remain vigilant. This is no time to slip back to our old consumer habits and let things slide.

Many are shopping online and buying tons of stuff ( which explains why the postal service has been so slow…)

The planet cannot afford that we resort to our old ways…It just cannot.

It’s suffocating under piles of used and discard clothing going into landfills and third world countries. And remember that according to PWC, 60% of all new clothing is discarded within the first year!

It’s time to stop and take a breath.  Go outside, take in the expansive sky and see the beauty that surrounds you in a smile, a kind gesture, or a butterfly.

That’s what I’m doing now, every single day. I haven’t set foot in a all in over 4 months. And the truth is, I don’t really miss it.

Remember that you are enough.

You have enough.

More than enough…
