Podcast interview: Sophie Marino of La Fibre et Moi

Alpaca Knits, locally made with flair and a touch of refined elegance.  A rich heritage of inherited skills and passion.  A devoted yogi and a resident of the Eastern Townships.  Sophie Marino is a woman worth knowing and visiting. I’ve written about Sophie Marino, the founder of La Fibre et Moi before. More than anything, I respect and admire women who’ve had the courage to follow their intuition and their dreams. That’s exactly what Sophie has done, beginning with a modest production in her own home and now offering her creations in forty-three points of sale across Quebec and the rest of Canada.

I’m a fan, not just because she creates gorgeous accessories with dedication, perseverance, and style, but mostly because I think she has a beautiful spirit.   And she hails from a long line of passionate fashion lovers, not least being her grandmother who was a pioneer and a passionate trailblazer and girlboss, way before her time!

Sophie’s aunt Josée also owned her own knitting business, from whom Sophie inherited her first knitting machine to launch her own business.   She used it to brush up on her skills and learn from a local craftsperson.

Sophie created high quality scarvess, shawls and accessories that are sold in shops across the country, including at the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Château Frontenac in Quebec City, as well as high end shops across Quebec.

Being a dedicated practitioner of yin yoga, Sophie created a new product, the Mandala shawl, which can serve to cover up the body after practice or as a way to elevate the body in certain poses that require additional support.

I’m looking forward to trying it out!

Sophie recently moved her shop out of the family home and into Le Relais de la Diligence in Dunham, Quebec in the heart of the Townships’ wine region.     She shares the space with two other local accessory designers , that have complementary offerings:  handbags by Atelier Gonthier and handmade jewelry.

If you happen to be in the region this summer,  I highly recommend that you stop into their new space and to meet Sophie. You’ll see, her charm is irresistible!

P.S.   If you happen to be in the beautiful township region on August 4th, I am offering a conference on going for your dreams along with Jennifer Brodeur, Founder of JB Skin Guru as well as John Kobel, in the beautiful Oneka grounds in Frelighsburg, QC.   More information is available on my Facebook Page. Hope to see you there!
