This week I chatted with Montreal designer Katrin Leblond, a talented artist that creates colorful fashion pieces and accessories right here in Montreal. I love the colors and textures that she brings to her collection, and the fact that she caters to women of all shapes and sizes. During our talk, I discovered a natural, sweet, colorful and accessible woman, just like her clothes.
I first came across her work last year when the pandemic first hit as she was one of the first designers I found to make artful and attractive face masks. After subscribing to her newsletter, I discovered that she was generously giving away some of the proceeds from the sale of these masks to certain charities.
Katrin is also inspired by nature and creates artwork inspired by the enchanting beauty that nature brings. During our podcast interview, she talked about this gorgeous print below that will be available in a different style in the fall. I can’t wait!
Katrin has lots of experience: she began her 20-year career as a textile designer, acquiring proficiency in the most basic of elements of fashion: repeats, textures, stripes and colour. Beginning in 2004 she brought those craft-based skills and sensibilities to her own clothing collections. In 2007 she launched her own label, Katrin Leblond Design, and her own outlet, Boutique Katrin Leblond on Boulevard Saint Laurent. In 2017, she started illustrating her own limited edition repeat prints.
During our talk, Katrin also offered some insights on being an entrepreneur, having her own team, collaborations, and managing inventory. She has a spiritual approach to some of these matters such as clearing out inventory remains so if you’re curious, listen to our talk here or here.
