An Interview with Sandra Parker, founder of Justine Haines

Last week, for my Soulful Couture podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Sandra Parker, the founder of Justine Haines, the Montreal-based label making eco-conscious period panties, a great accessory to help protect our gorgeous planet, (pardon the scruffy voice, I was overcoming a cold during the recording).

Sandra and I met at a friend’s event this summer and when I saw the products she was selling, I was smitten.

Sandra is a fashion industry veteran, having spent 17 years working as the Fashion Marketing Coordinator for Lasalle College in Montreal, a local fashion school.   In her time there, she met and collabrated with many young designers who were passionate about creating their own vision and launching their own brand.

When the lockdown of 2020 hit, she realized that she too could and would spread her wings and start her own business. During that transformational time, she also concluded that she had consumed way too many fast fashion outfits in her lifetime, and, like many of us, decided to make a conscious change in her shopping habits.

Justine Haines is an undergarment and women’s hygiene product all rolled into one. Did you know that a woman will spend over $10,000 in her lifetime on feminine products such as tampons and pads? These are not only expensive, but they are not convenient and bad for the environment.  Not to mention, they are not always reliable.

What I love about Sandra is the fact she takes her mission seriously and takes the time answers questions from young women about their periods both on her site and on Quora.

The undergarments are made with a view to protect your clothes, sheets, etc.   Their design & style is far from conservative or boring:  the designs are casual, fun, and sexy… As Sandra playfully likes to say:  they’re not your grandma’s panties!  One look at the website and you’ll understand why: the patterns and styles are fun and fashionable.

What I love most about the Justine Haines underwear brand is its mission to reduce the amount of trash on this planet.  The undies are washable and can be re-used countless times, as the material used is super absorbent and made to last.  Sandra sources her fabrics from many suppliers and consciously chooses them with intention.  I can attest to the solidity and fabrication, having viewed, and inspected a pair of briefs myself.

They’re not only stunning, they are useful and they will save you money, energy and disposable waste.  Oh, and you’ll look stunning and sexy while wearing them too.

It’s time to multiply the ways we can protect our planet: and Justine Haines offers us is one of those ways.

The undergarments are available here.

Thank you so much Sandra!
