Parley For The Oceans Collaborates with Big Names in Fashion

According to Avaaz, the international non-profit organization, by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans. This should give us all pause for concern. Major pause. Major concern. And a desire for immediate action. This week, Stella McCartney announced a partnership with Parley for the Oceans, an organization committed to fighting marine plastic pollution. McCartney will use Parley materials in lieu of recycled polyester. I have long admired Stella McCartney and her strong desire to protect the environment and the world’s animals as well as her non-use of leather materials to create her line of vegan accessories.   This fresh collaboration is in line with her committment to protect the planet and I look forward to tlaunchuch of this new collection in July 2017.

According to Parley,  its ultimate goal is to end the destruction of oceans, our planet’s most important ecosystem. “We want to make sure we are fast enough to meet the ultimate deadline and turn the ship around before we lose a treasure we have only just started to explore and still don’t fully understand: the fantastic blue universe beneath us — the oceans,” the organization’s website reads.
Looking back, Parley has also collaborated with Adidas for the creation of a limited-edition pair of running shoes. They’re attractive,  and cool-looking. I look forward to day where I will own my own pair.
In an interview, Adidas designer Alexander Taylor claimed that the shoes are made using Adidas’ existing footwear manufacturing processes but the usual synthetic fibres are replaced with yarns made from the recycled Parley Ocean Plastic.
“This project triggered a new way for me to work and imagine how my studio could adapt and evolve in the future,” said Taylor.  “A designer can be the agitator and the agent for change. He must be entrepreneurial in spirit, seeking out collaborators to reach amazing solutions which outperform and offer truly viable alternatives to current methods.”
Spoken like a true visionary. And we’re totally on board with that.
