Eco Tips for Spring Cleaning!

With the arrival of Spring, it’s time for a deep cleanse!   Woohoooo!  As someone born under the sign of Virgo, I love the words ‘deep cleaning.’   These words resonates deep within my Soul.  This is true whether I’m cleaning my home, office, closets, or car.  Not to mention the fact that cleaning creates space for better things to flow into our lives, such as additional space for our creative pursuits and pursuing our goals.  According to author Tosha Silver, cleaning is a powerful manifestation tool.  In her book Outrageous Openness and It’s Not Your Money: How to Live Fully From Divine Abundance, Silver mentions that it’s challenging for the Universe to bring in more abundance into our lives when our space and energy is clogged up with excessive clutter.  This is something I’ve been working to eliminate.  As a former ‘collector’, this has been challenging for me and I’ve been learning to let go and surrender my ‘things’ so that others can benefit from using or wearing them.  Also, since the Universe does not like a vacuum, when we clean, we allow space for what we truly desire to come in.

I’ve been learning to let go and surrender my ‘things’ so that others can benefit from using or wearing them.

In the last few weeks, I brought several bags of clothes to the local thrift store and it felt really great. The truth is that I’m not done yet. I have more               books, trinkets, and stuff to give away. In my experience, as we navigate spiritual growth and evolution, our sense of style shifts too and so does our             taste.  We prefer spaciousness and emptiness to clutter and excessive stuff.

I’ve  been drawn to the videos and shows of  Marie Kondo on Netflix and watching her put away her things in such an orderly way makes my heart             sing.  Will I ever get to that level?   Probably not.   Am I having fun trying?  Ab-so-lutely.

I also love the feeling of surrendering my stuff, of allowing better things to come in and the spaciousness it creates..Ahhhhhhh!

I’m not going to lie, I’m not a minimalist, at least, not yet.   However, I am less inclined to tolerate clutter and to cram my closets excessively.  Been              there, done that and no longer wearing the ( extra ) T-Shirt.

“Even the seemingly mundane act of cleaning becomes a sacred process once it’s been offered. No matter how packed with clutter your home might currently be, you’ll be building, day by day, a temple for Love. By releasing what you don’t need, use, or adore, you’ll make room for this Divine residency.”

I’ve added below some fun and colorful finds that can be helpful in de-cluttering your home, closets, and living space.

  1.  Baskets From OrganiHaus:  I love these colorful baskets that are carefully woven by skilled craftspeople, with eco-friendly cotton rope and have  no plastics, harsh chemicals, toxins or harmful additives.  I just adore the colors!

2) I’m also loving this lovely cleaning set from Etsy.  This Zero Waste Cleaning Set features a super versatile dish soap that pairs perfectly with natural        sponge and produce bags.  The dish soap bar eliminates the need to purchase dish soap in plastic bottles!   I just LOVE that!  It’s also a stain remover          for any oil and food stains.

With these plant-based tools, all the mundane kitchen activities will become a breeze! It makes a wonderful everyday gift for friends and families                who are switching to a low waste lifestyle, or someone that enjoys cooking.   I will be ordering my own set very soon.

3)  If you own or collect jewelry, you may find it challenging to keep it all together!  I’m talking about the jewelry, of course….In doing some research on          ways to store your precious jewels, I came across a post on Reddit where people were suggesting terrific eco alternatives to buying new storage. This          included:

  • Vintage Dental Trays
  • Egg cartons
  • Origami boxes
  • Chocolate Boxes
  • Ice cube trays ( what a great idea!)

I think those are all terrific alternatives that I will definitely try.  I also found this lovely pink box from Ecoleatherette. Eco Leatherette is made from cotton that is processed using a distinctive method, giving it the effect of real leather.  I love the idea of recycled cotton looking like leather and the color is spectacular.

I hope the above suggestions provided you with the incentive to clean, organize, and donate what you no longer use or need, just in time for the new Spring season and Earth Month that is right around the corner!
